All you ever wanted to know about The Al-Gore-Rhythms
Our team is made up of three programmers: James Maes, Darin Kelkhoff, and Tim Chamberlain. I emphasize the word programmers, because I (Darin), personally believe that a person can be defined by the work that they do. That’s the philosophy that I try to employee towards my work — I feel that it defines me, so to be the best person that I can be, I must be the best, smartest, hardest worker that I can be. I think that I speak, at least in general terms for my teammates when i say these things as well.
This is why the annual ICFP Programming Contest means so much to us. It is a way for us to have a session of time completely dedicated to that which we do, which makes us who we are. A time when we can reach down within ourselves, to try to discover all the potential that the Maker has endowed us with. The ICFP Contest is a chance to prove to say to our friends and family, and all the world, “Look at me — this is what I am — a programmer, and a damned good one, the best that I can be.”
Sure, we haven’t won yet. So you might wonder how good we really are. We wonder it too. That’s why we join the contest every year. We know that every year the other teams around the world are also brining their very best too. It’s an honor to be able to stand among these proud peers of ours, to compete, to share knowledge and to share 72 hours. And one of these years we’ll have our day in the sun, and take home the prize. Let’s just see if this is the year.
